Auditioning

x

Recently, a private coaching client of mine told me about an audition she had for a Broadway show. She mentioned that when she walked into the waiting area, there were many girls there her age, all auditioning for the same role. Many of the girls seemed to know one another and my client allowed herself to feel like an outsider or underdog, prior to even walking through the door to audition. She said seeing her “competition” psyched her out and lowered her self-confidence.

This is why I recommend taking Acting Outside The Box coaching cards with you to auditions. You can flip through the cards or study a few of your favorites while you are waiting, in order to stay focused on the task at hand. It is important to understand as an actor, you are unique and special and no one will bring the same energy or interpretation to an audition as you. There is no need to compete with anyone and also no need to chit chat while you are waiting to go in for your one (and sometimes only) opportunity to show people your talent.
